For the last couple of weeks High Stables Common Room has been undergoing renovations. The area previously consisted of a horseshoe shaped room, with the bar occupying the middle section. There was also a first floor mezzanine that had limited use due to it's size, and therefore was rarely used.
The bar has now been moved into what was the common room toilet area, opening up the whole room to make it a much more usable space. The mezzanine floor has been extended into a full 1st floor, doubling the floor area upstairs.
When the renovations are complete the space will be more versatile, allowing it to be used as an extra teaching space and comfortable area for the residents of High Stables. A flatscreen tv is being installed for recreational activities and as a media outlet for slideshows to be used for adult, University or school groups. A drinks station is also being installed to allow tea and coffee on demand.
The pictures below show how the work is going, check back soon for photos of the finished work.
The first photo shows the bar as it was, the next show it as it is being removed in stages.
