Automatic Weather Station

As a local resident of Carleton in Craven and weather enthusiast, Lee Schofield has recently set up a new automatic weather station at Malham Tarn. This is a very exciting addition to the daily manual weather observations, already recorded at our Met Pen. The below information, which has been written by Lee, explains the weather network he has already set up. We would like to take the opportunity to thank Lee, for installing the weather station at the Tarn.

Lee Schofield said ''The automatic weather station at Malham Tarn forms part of my expanding network of remote observation sites situation at various points across The Yorkshire Dales & Skipton area.

The weather stations records Air temperature, Relative humidity, rainfall, wind speed and direction, wind chill, dew point and air pressure along with 24hr maximum and minimum observations.

There are 19 observation sites currently in  operation all uploading data via the internet to my website http://www.thelocalweather.co.uk/  I have plans to expand the network further over the coming months with new weather stations planned in Wensleydale at Askrigg and at Howgill close to Burnsall in Upper Wharfedale.

The whole network is funded and maintained by myself as a service to locals and those planning a day out in the area.

I also upload to Facebook & Twitter a 24hour weather forecast for the area each day this can be seen on Facebook by following Craven Weather or on twitter @craven weather.''

A very snowy March

Well after a very snowy weekend, groups finally managed to escape. Cheshunt and Sutton High changed their plan but still carried out a very productive few days to prepare the students for their AS skills and Core paper exam.

People and the Dales Project

The People and the Dales Project, makes the Yorkshire Dales more accessible to people who may not normally have had the chance to visit the beautiful scenery here. The FSC has an ongoing collaboration with the project, and you can follow the link to see the benefit that this scheme has on people involved.

Red Nose Day Bake Off

As it's Red Nose Day, staff have pulled out all the stops to create some amazing cakes to be sold to staff and students to raise money for Comic Relief. Lets hope they are as yummy as they look!

 

High Stables Common Room Renovations

For the last couple of weeks High Stables Common Room has been undergoing renovations. The area previously consisted of a horseshoe shaped room, with the bar occupying the middle section. There was also a first floor mezzanine that had limited use due to it's size, and therefore was rarely used.

The bar has now been moved into what was the common room toilet area, opening up the whole room to make it a much more usable space. The mezzanine floor has been extended into a full 1^st floor, doubling the floor area upstairs.

When the renovations are complete the space will be more versatile, allowing it to be used as an extra teaching space and comfortable area for the residents of High Stables. A flatscreen tv is being installed for recreational activities and as a media outlet for slideshows to be used for adult, University or school groups.  A drinks station is also being installed to allow tea and coffee on demand.
